On Wednesday 7 October, at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati, institutions and scholars discuss storytelling, visualisation and new ways of experiencing the Medici villas and gardens.
How can a heritage as widespread as the Medici villas and gardens be told? And how can digital technologies help people learn about it, protect it and make it more accessible? The conference "Il racconto delle ville e dei giardini medicei in Toscana" will address these questions. It will take place on Wednesday 7 October 2026, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm, in the Sala Esposizioni of Palazzo Guadagni Strozzi Sacrati, Piazza del Duomo 10, Florence.
The morning will open with institutional greetings from Cristina Manetti, Regional Councillor for Culture, Universities, Gender Equality and the Right to Happiness, and Gabriella Farsi, Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Institutions and Activities of the Tuscany Region. Three talks will follow, given by representatives of the regional administration, the academic world and art history research. They will focus on the digital ecosystem of Tuscan culture, the storytelling project for the Medici villas, and the relationship between storytelling and visualisation, illustrated through the case of the gardens.
A round table on enhancing heritage through new technologies will then take place. Participants will include representatives of the Tuscany Region, the Municipality of Florence, the University of Florence, the HereLab Laboratory and the museum collections of the Medici villas. The discussion will explore the opportunities that digital tools offer for knowledge, conservation and participation, in support of new strategies for visitor engagement.
