Echoes of Eternity: The Faces of the Etruscans Revealed

Echi d'eternità

The Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme presents “Echoes of Eternity: The Faces of the Etruscans Revealed” — a new room dedicated to Etruscan canopic jars.

On Sunday, October 26th 2025, the Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme will participate in Etruscan Day with a special event: “Echoes of Eternity: The Faces of the Etruscans Revealed”, the inauguration of a new exhibition hall dedicated to Etruscan canopic jars, the extraordinary cinerary urns that reveal the features and expressions of Etruscan faces throughout the centuries.

The Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme is participating in the Progetto Etruschi 85/25, promoted by Regione Toscana together with Fondazione Musei Senesi and Associazione Musei Archeologici della Toscana, which celebrates the 40th anniversary of the major events of 1985 dedicated to Etruscan civilization.

The Museum houses the largest collection of Etruscan canopic jars currently in existence, the result of excavations in the necropolis of Tolle (1996-2011). There are over a hundred burials, all restored by the museum and showed in 2015. A modest but significant representation is already part of the exhibition, but on the occasion of the anniversary of the “Etruscan Project” held in 1985, a new group of these anthropomorphic cinerary urns, which constitute a new section of the permanent exhibition, will be displayed.

Through these extraordinary artefacts, visitors will be able to discover the variety and depth of the relationship that the Etruscans had with the cult of the dead, memory and the representation of individual identity.

The inauguration will be attended by the Mayor of Chianciano Terme, Grazia Torelli, the President of Regione Toscana, Eugenio Giani, and the President of the Fondazione Musei Senesi, Alessandro Ricceri, who will give an institutional greeting.
This will be followed by speeches by the Director of the Museum, Giulio Paolucci, and the Archaeologist of the Soprintendenza per l’Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio delle province di Siena, Grosseto e Arezzo, Ada Salvi.
