From July to September 2026, the Parks and Museums of the Val di Cornia present a programme dedicated to the discovery of the area’s archaeological and mining heritage, including sunset visits, thematic itineraries, and contemporary forms of interpretation.
The programme spans some of the symbolic places of the Val di Cornia: the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia, with its necropolises overlooking the Gulf of Baratti; the Archaeological Museum of the Territory of Populonia, which preserves and recounts the history of the ancient Etruscan and Roman city; and the Archaeomining Park of San Silvestro, where the natural landscape meets the memory of mining work and the traces of the exploitation of metal deposits from the Etruscan age to the modern era.
Every Sunday in July and August, the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia hosts Archeo-Sunset, tra mare e archeologia, open from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The sunset visits offer the opportunity to discover the necropolis of Baratti at a particularly evocative time of day, among coastal landscapes, archaeology, and ancient history. During the month of August, as part of the The Etruscans 85–25 project, the events will be dedicated to the discovery of Etruscan civilisation.
Every Friday in July and August, the Archaeological Museum of the Territory of Populonia offers thematic guided tours, with departures at 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM, and 4:30 PM. The itinerary guides visitors through artefacts, testimonies, and stories connected to the territory of Populonia and its history. Here too, the August visits, as part of the The Etruscans 85–25 project, will be dedicated to the discovery of Etruscan civilisation.
The programme concludes on Saturday 26 September, at 4:00 PM, at the Archaeomining Park of San Silvestro with Intersezioni – Miniere etrusche e meccanica quantistica, a special visit combining mines, science, archaeology, and theatre. The itinerary will take place between the Temperino Mine and the winding-engine building of Pozzo Earle, bringing into dialogue the mining history of the area with scientific research and performative dimensions. The Temperino Mine offers the opportunity to observe rocks, minerals, and traces of ancient and modern extraction techniques, while the Pozzo Earle area preserves structures and memories connected to the most recent phases of mining activity.
