Francisci Redi Patricii Arretini: la (ri)scoperta del genio - Mostra bibliografica

mostra redi

From 2 April to 7 June 2026, the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea in Arezzo hosts Francisci Redi Patricii Arretini: la (ri)scoperta del genio, a bibliographic exhibition curated by Elisa Boffa.

On the occasion of the fourth centenary of the birth of Francesco Redi, the city celebrates one of the most distinguished figures of 17th-century scientific and literary culture.

The exhibition offers a journey through documents, manuscripts, and printed works that recount the extraordinary figure of a physician, naturalist, man of letters, and academic—one of the leading interpreters of the experimental method inherited from Galileo Galilei. A member of the Accademia del Cimento and the Accademia della Crusca, Redi was able to combine scientific rigour with humanistic sensitivity, making a decisive contribution to the development of modern science.

The exhibition conveys the complexity of an encyclopaedic intellectual, capable of ranging across medicine, natural sciences, and literature, and highlights his deep connection with Arezzo, a city to which he remained closely tied through donations, cultural relationships, and civic engagement.

Through a structured thematic itinerary, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover not only Redi’s work, but also the value of historical and documentary heritage as a tool for knowledge and memory.

An opportunity to reinterpret, in a contemporary key, the legacy of one of the great figures of Tuscan and European culture.
