The scientific heritage of cultura.toscana.it is growing through the digitisation of important manuscripts from the period between the 17th and 19th centuries preserved in Tuscan libraries.
The digitisation of the Galilean Manuscripts collection, a series of 40 precious volumes housed in the National Central Library of Florence, has now been completed. This collection is crucial not only for deepening our understanding of Galileo Galilei’s work, but also for studying its reception in the centuries that followed and examining how the myth surrounding Galileo was constructed between the 18th and 20th centuries..
The Redi Cestoni Manuscripts are now available, 72 volumes preserved in the Marucelliana Library that document the life and research of the physician and scientist Francesco Redi (1626-1697). This archival material, hitherto unpublished, is a valuable and as yet underexplored source for the history of science.
