Cortona On The Move: Stato dell’arte della fotografia

Stato dell'arte della fotografia

The sixteenth edition of Cortona On The Move, Beautiful Country, is drawing to a close. Its final days, from 29 October to 1 November, open with the conference Stato dell’arte della fotografia (State of the Art of Photography), devoted to the present and future of the medium.

The conference, born from a collaboration between Cortona On The Move, Regione Toscana and Fondazione Alinari, takes place on Thursday 29 October at Teatro Signorelli in Cortona.

The morning, after opening remarks from Regione Toscana, the Municipality of Cortona, the Ministry of Culture, Fondazione Alinari and Cortona On The Move, is devoted to visual education: why we need to learn how to read photographs and, more broadly, how to look. The topic is discussed in a round table by organisations working in this field in Tuscany and across Italy: Kublaiklan, Fotonomia, Lanterne Magiche and Fondazione Alinari. The session is introduced and moderated by Mauro Zanchi.

The afternoon focuses on those who produce, promote and support photography. Sara Benaglia and Mauro Zanchi present the Annual Report of Il Giornale dell’Arte, a mapping of the Italian scene. This is followed by a look at international institutions and practices, with a round table featuring Fondazione Alinari, Photo Museum Ireland, FOTOHOF, Cortona On The Move and the photographer Yvette Monahan.

Over the three days following the conference, the festival continues with guided tours and activities for all ages.
